It is warm and sunny and feels like spring this week. Replacement vines are being planted. The merlot is grafted onto a rootstock and planted with bare roots. We expect these new vines to produce within the next three years. Patience as always.
Each individual vine is referred to as a “pied” in French, which means a foot. So at the moment we are replacing the missing feet in the fields. When we work down a row of vines we check the feet of the vine, the trunk so to speak.
The vines look so bare, but the touch of green is showing on the buds (“pointe verte”).
I will let you know when the first leaves begin to burst forth.
The storks and geese are migrating north overhead.
Anticipation of spring.
