The Saint Jacques de Compostelle is a popular route for travelers in France. It passes by us on one of the four main pilgrim trails through France. 
This one originates at Chartes, continues on from Paris and then on through Bordeaux. The route itself is a UNESCO world heritage site. It is part of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela ( also know as “The Way of Saint James”) with Santiago de Compostela in the north west of Spain being the final destination. The scallop shell is the traditional emblem of Saint James and is popularly worn on the pilgrims’ hats or cloths.
People often stop as they pass us while on their pilgrimage. One day we had a man go by ,leading a donkey flying an English flag. Our workers did not speak English but knew enough to say “God save the queen!”. That brought a quick smile to his face.
Last week we had a horse drawn travelling marionette show stop and buy some wine from us. Little did we know that puppeteers would be among our customers.
Each day is different here. We enjoy the diversity and the many people making their pilgrimage to Santiago.
